I Need A Little Time....

Lots more Bloomberg interrogation this morning, for many different historical energy prices and a ton of related queries. Made the Monday morning go very quickly though. Am now getting into the habit of keeping a list of all of the short codes I am using to make things easier for next time....

then I had a query about how Bloomberg calculate monthly prices on their system. I phoned their helpdesk who, rather unhelpfully I thought, told me to go back to the terminal and use the online help for this. Easy if you have the terminal in front of you. Not so easy when it's in someone's office and that person is currently eating their lunch....

I was interested to see an article in this month's CILIP Update championing a newly-published white paper on knowledge management, which I have downloaded but not yet had a chance to read. Update summarised the paper with a few key points, namely 'start small' and 'learn form the best performers'. A table of KM techniques is also included.

As with most things CILIP I would expect the report to be aimed more at the public sector but I am sure that there is plenty of relevance to others in commercial, academic or specialised jobs. The main stumbling block from a personal point of view would be for me, as a solo, to be able to find out who exactly are 'the best performers' that I need to learn from. Is this just a case of going with the names in the report, or should I be trying to spend more time immersed in CILIP and/or SLA websites/forums and trying to develop my KM knowledge through other literature? What if the people I read about are not the best people to be learning from? Presumably I need to find people in a similar size organisation/sector but if the report is public sector focused then that won't be very useful....

If only I had the time for this. Perhaps I should read the report and then get back to you all with my findings. When I have the time to do so....
