Seven applications outstanding now; basically all those that I mentioned in my last post plus another post with a careers management company based in and around the City.
I was also informed of an excellent position with a leading law firm; was advised to apply but was rejected inside 24 hours. Turns out that it was a re-advertised post, but an permanent rather than a temporary position, and I had previously looked at the former before Christmas. A little bit gutted when I found out....
Finally, a phone call and email from an oil & gas recruitment agency but unfortunately the job was not suitable. As with most jobs in the industry they tend to be very specialised, and require extensive knowledge/experience of the industry, far and above what I have. After explaining to here that I needed to go after jobs that require an information specialist but not an industry specialist she made a promise to keep me in mind for anything suitable in the future. Don't hold your breath....

Hang in there! I know it can be difficult. I had an unexpected layoff in the summer of 2002 and didn't find a professional position until the end of 2005. There is light at the end of the tunnel...just don't give up "hope."

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement and it is reassuring to know that there is success at the end of adversity.
I will keep on plugging away....
